Homestay Hosts Needed!
We are seeking homestay hosts for four young professionals
from Taiwan who will be in Chicago for business internships, March 27-May
22. Hosting opportunities available for 4 or 8 weeks; generous
stipends provided.
*Ashley is interested in working in foreign trade and finance.
During her free time, she enjoys exercising, movies, and travel, and
adores pets!
*Rolin loves museums, travel, and performing arts. She was a
Chinese language and drama teacher in Taiwan and is interested in working
in marketing and sales.
*Karen can't wait to learn more about American culture and food!
She was an Education and Psychology major in college and is interested in
working in Human Resources or Public Relations.
*Hazel would love to work in the cosmetics industry. She loves
following fashion trends, learning about diverse cultures, trying new
foods, and watching movies and musicals.

Maryn McKenna is an independent journalist and author who specializes in
public health, medicine and health policy. She writes features for
national magazines and news stories for an infectious-disease website.
In addition to her new book, Superbug: The Fatal Menace of MRSA,
about the rise of drug-resistant staph around the world, she is working
on projects on polio eradication and on emergency room overcrowding. Superbug:
The Fatal Menace of MRSA, will be available for sale at the event and
Ms. McKenna will be available to sign your copy!
Dr. Ana Gil-Garcia, a tenured University Professor at Northeastern
Illinois University, author, esteemed community leader, and advocate for
Latino educational leaders, will make a special cultural presentation
about women in Venezuela, her native country.

Taiwan International Trade Institute Program: Homestay

Description: The Taiwanese delegates will be working in
Chicago-area organizations as high-level interns Mondays-Thursdays to
improve business and English communication skills with Fridays designated
for organized tours, educational seminars, or free-time.
Homestay Hosts Requested!
The International Visitors Center of Chicago, in partnership with
Roosevelt University, is seeking Chicago-area residents who would like to
open their homes to the Taiwanese delegates during their professional
exchange program.
Dates: March 27-May 22, 2010 (hosting opportunities for 4 or 8 weeks)
English-speaking young business professionals from Taiwan
Homestay Requirements: Participants must have own room in the home and
full board. Generous stipend is provided to homestay hosts.
We ask the homestay hosts to provide:
-a separate bedroom for the delegate and access to a private or shared
bathroom;
-full board: have all meals together with the delegate or have food
available for him or her; and
-quality time spent with Taiwanese guests to share experiences/insights
about daily life and culture in Chicago

Internship Hosts Requested!
Roosevelt University, Heller College of Business is looking for
companies interested in hosting an unpaid international business student
intern.
This program provides Taiwanese graduate-level students with an 8 week
internship in Chicago. Students will arrive in Chicago on March 29
and depart from Chicago on May 21, 2010. These internships are unpaid
and FREE to each Chicago based company. An Info Session will be
held on February 10th from 7:30AM to 8:30AM at 18 S. Michigan, 4th Floor.

The Objectives of the internship:
・To give the student
first-hand experience with a foreign culture and environment.
・To give the student
first-hand knowledge of the market and economies of their chosen country.
・To give the student a
more global perspective.
・To develop the
student's confidence in dealing with non-native situations.
・To polish the student's
communication skills in English.
Internship Requirements:
1. The duration for the internship is eight weeks.
2. Each company hosts one student at a time, or hosts two students but
places them in different departments.
3. ITI requests that each company assign a staff member to be the
intern's mentor.
4. ITI requests that students should be placed in English speaking and
business-related enterprises.
5. Three types of work are preferred:
a. Working in one or more departments to develop
an understanding of daily operations.
b. Participating in special projects.
c. Visiting clients with staff members from the
sales department.

Pakistan Legislative Fellowship Program: Homestay Hosts
Needed!

Description: This exciting program provides the opportunity
for 6 legislative professionals to complete 3 week internships with US
Congressional and State of Illinois Legislative Offices. The
participants are all legislative research aides at the provincial and
national assembly levels in Pakistan. The program will provide a
wonderful opportunity for emerging leaders from a key US ally to
interactively learn about the US legislative process and culture - we
hope that you will consider opening your home to these delegates!
The program includes homestays, cultural activities, action planning, and
volunteer opportunities.
We
ask the homestay hosts to provide:
-a separate bedroom for 1-2 delegates and access to a private or shared
bathroom;
-breakfast daily and some dinners; and
-quality time spent with Pakistani guests to share experiences/insights
about daily life and culture in Chicago
A small stipend will be made available to homestay hosts.
